Firlik Grandparents' 50th Anniversary Trip

April 16th-18th, 2026

January 3rd, 1976 was the day my Grandmother and Grandfather on my Dad's side would officially get married. 50 years later, they have 3 sons, 7 grandchildren, and 1 great grandchild. Over the many years they have been together they have made many memories, and are the reason my family exists today.

About a year ago we asked my grandparents what they wanted to do for their 50th. After some time, they decided that they wanted to celebrate by having the whole family get together to celebrate in the country side. After a little bit of planning, we settled on a farm house in the Mohican Valley region in mid Ohio.

Thursday April 16th started out with My Dad, Grandpa, Uncle and I went to Costco to get the food for the trip. I finally got my Costco hot dog fix for the first time in a hot minute.

We would leave for the house at 2pm and I got there at 3:30. The resident barn cats came up to greet us, and they were super friendly. Thurday evening was just my grandparents, uncle, Dad and I. We got dinner and spent the evening relaxing.

Friday morning we would wake up and have an easy breakfast while watching the ponies graze the grass. With it being "preseason" in the area, a lot of tourist spots weren't open yet for the summer. We decided to make the 2 hour drive to Buc-ee's for lunch. It was my uncle's first time visiting, and it surprised him just how big a Buc-ee's was.

My cousins and brother would make it down by 4:30, and we would all have a fun evening playing games, having tacos, and talking with my aunt and uncle with me about college by the campfire.

Saturday morning we went to Mohican Adventures to do the ropes course and mini golf with the cousins. We all did the mini golf, and after me, My Dad, my uncles, and cousins went up. They were really challenging. My grandparents and aunt watched from the ground, while we all struggled with the course. A storm was beginning to blow in as we were finishing up, and a big rain storm hit at lunch time.

After lunch I took a long nap, since I didn't sleep well the night before. Since it was raining, we played games inside all day, and all hung out. I sat on the covered porch for a bit with the cats.

For dinner, Dad and my uncles cooked up some steaks with the Buc-ee's steak seasoning I bought. The steaks were really good, and so juicy. We also had green beans, Mac and Cheese, salad, and rice as the sides. After dinner, we had cake to celebrate the anniversary, and I would have to pack up to drive back to Sandusky to work Sunday.

The trip was the first time in a long time I got to see so much of my dad's side of the family. I hadn't seen my cousins since before Christmas, and with all my work and school I hadn't seen my grandparents. This trip fixed both of those issues. We all had so much fun, and I am so glad the trip worked out for everyone.
