The Buc-ee's Saga

April 6th & 8th, 2026

Buc-ee's is a gas station chain primarily found across the southern United States. When a new location opened in Huber Heights on April 6, 2026, it kicked off what would become a saga for the ages in my attempt to visit the Ohio Buc-ee’s.

Monday was an easy start. I left for BGSU at 1 PM, and made it there at 4:30 PM. After Thompson picked us up at 5, we would also pick up Chris and Sydney. We would begin our drive down to Dayton to visit Buc-ee's but about 45 minutes in we developed a low tire pressure warning. Thompson assumed it was because of the chaotic winter and pulled off to get air. After 10 additional miles, it came back, and we discovered it was a bad tire. Lucky for us we were approaching Lima Ohio, which has a Wal-Mart Supercenter. After being infromed that they did not carry his tire, we would attempt to put the spare on.

The problem with this is that Thompson's car was a Mercedes. If you are unfamiliar, Mercedes has wheel locks for the wheels, which requires a special key to remove the lug nuts. We called around to see if a tire shop carried his tire. One tire shop did over by the Lima Mall. After filling the tire up, we made the slow 20 minute drive to the shop to hopefully get the tire replaced.

They did not have the wheel lock key either.

After an hour, they did somehow get it to work, and replaced the tire. At this time it was 7:30 PM, and we decided to turn back to BGSU. We took the back roads, and took it slow and easy getting back, getting in around 9. We decided on our way back to go to Waffle House, because it at least would make up for a rather bad evening.

Leaving work Wednesday, I would once again make my way to BG. I left Sandusky at 4:45, and we were on the road for Buc-ee's by 6:20 PM. The biggest difference for this trip was instead of taking Thompson's car, we were taking my Stepdad's car, with me driving. This small change was made as I know Abhi's car is better taken care of.

The drive down I75 was smooth, and we all discussed what we wanted to get at Buc-ee's. I knew I wanted a Brisket Sandwhich, and something branded Hubor Heights. all the chatter help pass the time and make the drive go quickly.

We pulled into Buc-ee's at 8:13 PM, to be greeted by the giant glowing Beaver. We surprisingly had little issue finding parking, and we parked within 5 minutes. Aidan, Chris, Sydney, and Thompson, were all excited to visit the first Buc-ee's in Ohio.

Taking in the Buc-ee's should have been easy given I have visited 6 other Buc-ee's prior to this. However, the fact it was so busy, and being in Ohio, I was left in awe. The bathrooms lived up to the hype, fresh brisket on the board, the jerkey wall, fudge, and...all the Buc-ee's merch.

After using the famous bathrooms, I went on and grabbed a basket to do my shopping. I would wind up buying a gas station drink pump, a Hubor Heights Buc-ee's t-shirt, a "Risk it for Brisket" magnet. a sliced brisked sandwhich, cookies, and a Buc-ee's cola fountain drink. The brisket was in high demand, and I had to wait 10 minutes for a restock of the sliced sandwhiches. I didn't mind though, since we did indeed, "risk it for the brisket."

They had so much Buc-ee's merch in stock, especially since the place opened just 2 days prior. I almost bought a Buc-ee's License plate, which is something I didn't know even existed.

We ate our dinner on the hood of the car. I had the sliced brisket sandwhich and Buc-ee's Cola, Sydney had the pulled pork sandwhich, Chris had the Pulled Pork Mac and Cheese, Thompson had a Texas Cheesesteak burrito All the food was great, and fresh. Other then waiting for my sandwhich, they seemed to have everything figured out, which is good for a busy place like Buc-ee's.

Enjoying a Buc-ee's brisket sandwhich with friends on a cool spring evening is a vibe I never knew I needed. I also never would have expected to do visit a Buc-ee's in Ohio had you asked me in 2022 after my first visit to a Buc-ee's. We chatted, and watched as people came and went into the Buc-ee's.

Before heading home, we went to the bronze statue of THE Buc-ee beaver located outside the north entrance. There was a small line, but we all got our pictues.

I look super goofy wearing my Mardi Gras Buc-ee's shirt and chain, but I wanted to show off how big of a fan I was of Buc-ee's, especially after the saga we delt with on Monday.

Visiting the first Buc-ee's in Ohio was probably the single best day I will have in April. For being open for 3 days, they were a well oiled machine. Fresh Brisket on the board, clean bathrooms, and the 120 gas pumps, Buc-ee's brings the spirit of "everything is bigger in Texas" to Ohio, something that I welcome. With the rumors of a Buc-ee's along I71 in Mansfield, I may not have to drive 3hrs to visit a Buc-ee's if it comes to reality.
