The Summer of 2025 I would go on to visit 9 parks, 5 of which were new to me. Rounding off summer of '25, would be my Birthday Trip to Michigan's Adventure located in Muskegon, Michigan.
I went with Taylor, and we left for the park from Sandusky on the morning of August 18th, just after my birthday. We would make the 4 hour drive, and arrive at the park just shy after 12:30. As we entered the park, I mentioned how it was my birthday, and the admissions associate gave me a neat Birthday pin, and I would wear it most of the day. We would go right for lunch, and it was a good snack at Coasters Drive-in. Our first ride of the day would actually be their carousel, and it was fun. I enjoyed its simple nature, however I do wish it had wooden horses. The first coaster we rode would wind up being Mad Mouse, a clone of the PyschoMouse I had just ridden two weeks prior in California. It was just as good, and smooth, as the one at CGA, however, it did have one kink in the one drop, however it didn't detract from the ride experience. Following we went and rode Corkscrew, a clone of the KBF '74 Corkscrew, which if you didn't know was the first modern inverting coaster built. Riding a clone of it, I got off understanding exactly why people absolutely lost it in '74 riding it, because it does the job of taking you upsidedown TWICE really well. I genuinely think it was the best inverting Arrow I rode all summer minus Loch Ness Monster at BGW.
Following my ride on Corkscrew, we rode Shivering Timbers, the parks famous CCI woodie, with brand new RMC 208 ReTrak on its second airtime hill. My God that ride feels like a hypercoaster, but with it being only 122ft tall, its nowhere NEAR the minimum height of a hyper, yet its and airtime machine like one. The 208 ReTrak is also really smooth, and it really improves the ride. The only other spot it could use some 208 ReTrak, is the turn around, but thats because it rides real rough. Following Shivering Timbers, we rode the train to Thunderhawk, and rode the the parks ex-Geauga Lake Vekoma SLC.
I was concerned while walking up to the ride, as I had already ridden two not-so-good SLCs at Six Flags America and Six Flags Discovery Kingdom, so when I got off the ride and remarked how smooth it ran, and how enjoyable it was, I realized why people would say Thunderhawk was the best SLC built. Following, we rode Woodstock's Express and Zach's Zoomer, the parks two kiddy coasters. Taylor looked up the reason it was named Zach's Zoomer, and it turns out it was named after the son of the park's former GM.
Taylor and I realized aferwards that we completely forgot about Wolverine Wildcat, and we went and rode it. Fun fact about Wolverine Wildcat is that its a clone of Phoenix at Knoebels Amusement Park, and it also uses GCI's Titan Track. We knew about the clone fact, not the Titan Track part however. It ran so smooth, and the ride was so much fun. After, we decided to get two more laps on Shivering Timbers, where we spotted a trash can from Geauga Lake along the track. It was real nice to see that. Following our rides in that corner, we rode the Tilt-a-Wirl, and the swing ride located in that section of the park. We wanted to get a reride on Thunderhawk, but due to a thunderstorm that was coming in, our day was cut short as the rides went down for weather.
The 7 coasters Michigan's Adventure has are all good, there is not a bad coaster at this park, so while there is a 7th place, it is still a good ride. My Rankings are as follows:
1: Shivering Timbers 9/10
2: Thunderhawk 9/10
3: Wolverine Wildcat 8/10
4: Mad Mouse 8/10
5: Corkscrew 8/10
6: Zach's Zoomer 7/10
7: Woodstock's Express 7/10
Throughout the day, I would look out over the lake and remark to Taylor how this park probably gives off Geauga Lake vibes, and this was confirmed by my Dad when he messaged me saying how he always felt like Michigan's Adventure was the closest thing to Geauga Lake left. The lake gave me a sense of peace as I walked around the park, and the Swan Boats on the lake really added a nice touch. The park felt smaller, more local, and not as Corporate as Cedar Point, CGA, or Dorney Park.
Sure, our passes worked at the park but if you were to drop me into the park with no context that it was Michigan's Adventure, I would have not guessed it was a Six Flags park. I want them to add some additional rides in the future, because it would be nice to see something new here, like a Chance hyper or maybe an RMC Single Rail. I want to return to this park, and make a small weekend out of it, because this park felt cozy, and it made me feel like a child at a carnival in terms of the feelings the park made me feel.
