Cedar Point is my home park, and a place like no other. I have been visiting since 2014, and attended every opening day since 2022. Opening day 2025 will be remembered for some time, because it was a rainy mess.
I would go up with my now ex gf Maria, and we got there right at 9am to line up for the day. We would wait an hour for the park to open for the 2025 season. During this time, the rain would slowly roll in, and it was cold, only 55f that day. At 10, we would go in, and I would go get my all season FunPix, while we waited for my mom, brother, and his friends to show up. We would all meet up at 10:20am, at the end of the line, which was down the midway by the load station. The rain was mild, but persistent. Top Thrill 2 would sit not operating, due to the wind and rain. We would all grow a little colder, and wetter, as this rain came in. I had brought rain gear, but Maria didn't, so she would eventually go get a Poncho. Around noon, we would all make the call to head back to my apartment, and wait out the rain.
My mom would order some pizza for all of us, as we waited for the rain to pass. The apartment was warm, and we all sat huddled up as we dried off our jackets in the dryer. We kept our eyes on the radar as I would entertain everyone by playing Lego StarWars on the TV. My mom, Nathan, and Maria would take a nap during this time, to rest up for the evening. At 3:45, we saw good news. From my apartment window, we saw Top Thrill 2 cycling. Not open, but working on it.
We all rushed to the park, and got there just shy of 4pm. We would get in line at 4:15, and begun to wait for the ride to finish test cycling. At 4:35 the ride would open, but would proceed to rollback from 420ft on the first public train. This would shut the ride down for another HOUR, as it would test cycle more. At 5:44, my mom, brother, and his friends, decided to bail, as it was cold, rainy, and they were done. At 5:45, TT2 would reopen. Maria and I would wait it out, but after another 45 minutes it would go down again. We were determined, so we waited it out. We would finally ride Top Thrill 2, front row, at 7:30pm. This means that, since returning at 4pm, had waited 3.5 hours to ride Top Thrill 2. If you want to factor the morning wait, that would be closer to 5 hours. After riding, I asked Maria to consider riding again, as the posted wait was "only 1.5 hours." She decided that she was done, and wanted to go home.
After waiting all day to ride TT2 for the first time since May 6th, 2024, I thought it was worth it. I got to ride the tallest coaster on Earth, and Maria also got to finally try it out. The day though, was awful otherwise. The rain was draining, and we simply couldn't deal with the fact we waited all day for one ride on Top Thrill 2. I still maintain that, even after riding TT2 61 additional times in 2025, that it was worth it.
