Beginning back in the early 2010s, I really wanted to have a lego City. It began when I got the Lego Police Station (Set 7498) for my birthday. I still have it largely kept together, even 14 years later. 4 years later I would get the Lego Modular Building Series Pet Shop (10218) and fall in love with the modular building line. I utilized a train table built at the time to have my lego city on it. It...wasn't much, but it was mine.
Christmas 2017 would begin a trend for many years of getting modular building for my christmas holiday, lasting from 2017-2019. It would go as follows: 2017: Brick Bank, 2018: Detectives Office, 2019: Assembly Square, Parisian Restaurant, Bookshop, and Corner Garage (last two were purchased by me). Following christmas 2019, I was all "caught up" with the modulars, so I would begin going to the Lego Store on NYD to get the new one, doing that from 2021-2023, with the Police Station, Boutique Hotel, and Jazz Club. Between 2020-2022, I would gain 3 more Modulars, Grand Emporium, Market Street, and designing and building my own Corner Grocery Store. This leaves me, as of October 2025, with 15 Modulars.
Over the years, as I would gain more buildings at my dads house, I would have different layouts. Starting with a simple street line on the floor, I would gain a table in the late 2010s (I think 2017?) and I would move the buildings to the table. Later I would add a wood board that would allow me to have a long line of buildings. After a bit, I would run out of room, leading me to use an old door as a foundation, with a layer of cardboard, to make a smooth surface to work with. I would use the line, and add roads. Eventually, I would rework my lego city's layout in 2021, to having a street of buildings. This street is largely the same, just added onto over the years. Today it sits in my bedroom at my dads house, although if I had a say I would bring it to Sandusky.
